Staveley Carnival

Staveley Carnival

Staveley Carnival 2006 has been a great success having just taken place in Staveley Village with hundreds of visitors from different parts of the world coming to visit.

The event is the fourth since it was re-introduced to the village back in 2000 and it's been the best on to date.

It was formed in January 2000 by its founder Shelley Barlow with the aim of creating an innovative and exciting arts project for the village, hosted every two years it just gets better and better.

This year's theme was 'fragile futures' and consisted of four colour schemes in the four groups - Feathers, Frost, Fairies and Flowers.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the 'Wearable Arts' catwalk fashion show, which was out of this world. The other was the main Brazilian style street procession which ended the weekend's events.

The streets were brisling with colour and the entrancing drum beats which filled the air had everyone dancing to the rhythm. Each theme was lead by some amazing still walkers who danced around the streets of Staveley in some of the most spectacular outfits I've ever seen.

I can't wait for the next carnival in 2008 as I know everyone in the village will do everything to make it even better.

Don't forget to sign up for are Newsletter to be reminded in 2008 about the next carnival.
